Maureen Fox, R.N, L.Ac

Maureen Fox, R.N., L.Ac. has an undergraduate degree in nursing, and worked as an R.N. prior to receiving her Masters level training as an acupuncturist at The Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, and Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Racine, Wisconsin. She holds a Diplomate of Acupuncture from the National Committee of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is currently licensed by the state of Missouri. Additionally, she is a member of the A.A.A.O.M. (American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) and is both a member and officer of the A.A.M. (Acupuncture Association of Missouri.)

According to Maureen:

I believe traditional Western medicine is at it’s best when it is saving lives, and alternative and complementary medicine’s strength lies in improving the quality of life. It is the difference between ‘being cured,’ and allowing the body to heal.

As Western medicine has developed stronger, more high-tech solutions to specific diseases, we have developed more complex and chronic diseases that do not respond well to these specific remedies. My orientation as an acupuncturist is to examine and treat the whole person, not to treat a specific lab result with a specific medication or procedure. Oriental medicine is ancient, and has been studied over hundreds of years and many, many generations. My work is to support the individual’s innate ability to heal. I believe that the human body is amazingly adaptive; that with help, it will heal itself. That is why I practice this medicine.
